COURSE CONTENT

The first module primarily focuses on the importance of hygiene and sanitary conditions in a beauty salon, outlining best practice guidelines to prevent cross-infection and illness.  An introduction to positive personal behaviours is also provided, along with the importance of effective sterilisation and the primary rules for health and safety in a salon environment.

A fascinating introduction to the basics of human anatomy and physiology follows in module two, exploring skin functions, hair structure and the importance of good nail health.  Candidates consider the needs and functions of the dermis and epidermis, the muscles of the shoulders and face, the basics of facial bone structure and more.

Module three guides learners through the process of identifying a variety of skin types and common skin conditions, while introducing the functions and benefits of cleansers, moisturisers and exfoliants.  The importance of customising skincare to suit individual skin requirements is also discussed, along with common signs of skin damage and their respective causes.

A fascinating introduction to facial skin treatments follows in module four, in which candidates learn how to prepare clients for facial treatments and apply a variety of products to address common issues.  Professional toning, moisturising and exfoliating techniques are examined, along with the difference between superficial and deep cleansing of the skin.

Additional products and techniques for improving skin conditions are discussed in module five, in which candidates consider the benefits of facial massage and the application of different types of facial masks.  A step by step guide to performing professional facial massage is also provided, along with appropriate post-massage skin treatments.

Module six details the process of preparing the professional workspace for clients, along with preparatory steps to be taken prior to applying makeup.  Important contra-indications to be identified during the initial skin consultation are discussed, along with key questions all clients must be asked and how to properly sanitise makeup application equipment.

The concept of corrective makeup and the professional application of makeup are discussed in module seven, in which candidates learn how to work with and accentuate the most prominent facial features.  Course content introduces the various different face shapes, the application of fake lashes and the differences between daytime and evening makeup.

Concluding the course, module eights familiarises candidates with several different hair types, along with the importance of choosing appropriate shampoos and conditioners accordingly.  Professional hair washing and conditioning techniques are also examined, along with how to dry and set the hair using professional salon equipment.
