How Online Study Works

Study is completed online, allowing you to work through the learning materials around your existing commitments. Each unit includes an assessment that you complete before progressing. The course duration is six months, but the flexible format lets you organise your study sessions around work, family and other responsibilities.

If you are new to online study, our guide to eLearning and digital learning explains how flexible, self-paced education works and what to expect from an online learning environment.

Certificate or Diploma: Which Branding Course Should You Choose?

Choose this Level 3 certificate if you want a six-month, seven-module programme focused on the core principles of branding, personal branding, positioning, SWOT analysis, communication, networking and presentation skills.

For broader study, the Diploma in Branding is a separate Level 5 programme with a published 12-month duration and nine modules. It includes the main branding themes covered here and adds further study in active listening and dealing with difficult people. Comparing the two syllabuses can help you choose the level and depth that best fit your current learning goal.

If you are considering branding as part of a wider marketing role, our Marketing Manager career guide provides additional context on common marketing responsibilities and the relationship between brand consistency, campaign planning and wider marketing activity.

COURSE CONTENT

This opening unit examines why personal branding matters in a business setting and how individual behaviour, style and professional presence can influence how abrand is perceived. It introduces the relationship between personal impact, credibility, trust and the wider image presented to customers, colleagues and other stakeholders.

This unit develops the idea of personal branding into a more deliberate strategy. You consider the style and impact you want to communicate, how personal conduct can reinforce a chosen brand identity and why consistency between what a brand says and how people represent it matters.

Here, the focus moves to the fundamentals of brand positioning. You explore what a strong brand is, how brand architecture and brand extension can be understood, how products and their values contribute to brand meaning, and how mission, vision and style statements help define direction. The unit also connects positioning with visual identity, including brand names, slogans and logos.

This unit introduces SWOT analysis as a structured way to review abrand through its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The aim is to support more considered brand decisions by looking at internal factors alongside the external conditions that may influence how a brand develops or competes.

Brand building depends on consistent communication. This unit considers how messages, touchpoints and day-to-day interactions contribute to brand perception, including the role employees can play as brand ambassadors. It also supports understanding of internal and external brand communication around launch, reinforcement and ongoing evaluation.

This unit focuses on professional networking as a practical communication activity. You consider how relationships, introductions and ongoing professional contact can support visibility, credibility and brand awareness, while reinforcing a consistent personal or organisational identity.

The final unit develops presentation-related skills that support clear brand communication. It considers how focus, preparation, delivery and professional communication can help you present ideas with greater consistency and confidence when representing yourself, a team or a wider brand.
